Versatile Lauric Oil for Food & Cosmetics

Coconut oil is a highly valued lauric oil used in food, cosmetics, and oleochemical applications. Global annual production exceeds 3.7 million metric tons, with major producers in the Philippines, Indonesia, and India.

Huatai's coconut oil production lines deliver complete EPC solutions covering every stage — from copra (dried coconut kernel) preparation and pressing, to refining and fractionation. Coconut oil's high lauric acid content (45-52%) gives it unique functional properties for confectionery, infant formula, and personal care products.

We offer flexible capacities from 5 TPD to 300 TPD. Each line is custom-engineered based on your copra quality (sun-dried or kiln-dried), target oil grade (RBD or virgin), and target applications (food, cosmetics, or oleochemical feedstock).

Coconut Oil Production Steps

From raw coconut oil to refined oil — a fully integrated process.

1. Copra Reception & Cleaning

Raw copra is received, weighed, and cleaned through magnetic separators and vibrating screens to remove foreign materials including shells, fibers, dust, and metal fragments.

2. Size Reduction

Copra blocks are broken into 2-4 cm pieces using hammer mills or copra cutters, preparing uniform feed for flaking.

3. Flaking

Broken copra is flaked to 0.30-0.40 mm thickness using smooth-roll flaking mills to rupture oil cells for optimal oil release.

4. Conditioning

Flakes are conditioned with steam to 60-70°C, adjusting moisture for optimal pressing. Coconut oil’s low melting point (24-26°C) requires controlled temperature management.

5. Pre-pressing

Conditioned flakes are pre-pressed in a continuous screw press to remove 55-65% of the oil. Copra contains 60-68% oil, making pre-pressing essential before solvent extraction.

6. Solvent Extraction

Pre-pressed cake is optionally extracted with hexane in a continuous extractor, reducing residual oil in meal below 1.0%. For virgin coconut oil, only mechanical pressing is used.

7. Filtration

Crude coconut oil is filtered through plate-and-frame filters or vertical leaf filters to remove solid impurities and fine particles.

8. Refining

Crude coconut oil is refined through degumming, neutralization, bleaching, and deodorization to produce RBD coconut oil with free fatty acid below 0.1%.

9. Fractionation (Optional)

RBD coconut oil can be fractionated to separate olein (liquid) and stearin (solid) fractions. Coconut olein is used as frying oil, while stearin is used in confectionery and shortenings.

Copra cutter or hammer mill for size reduction, magnetic separator, vibrating screen, and smooth-roll flaking mill for flake preparation.

Pressing & Extraction

Continuous screw pre-press for high-oil copra, optional chain-type or loop-type extractor for residual oil recovery, DTDC and miscella evaporation.

Filtration System

Plate-and-frame filter or vertical leaf filter for crude coconut oil clarification, removing solid impurities before refining.
