Rice Bran Wax Refining Equipment

Recover high-value wax from rice bran oil byproduct — solvent extraction, decolorization & granulation.

High-Value Renewable Byproduct of Rice Bran Oil

Rice bran wax is an important byproduct of rice bran oil processing. Extracting rice bran wax from the wax paste — a byproduct of rice bran oil refining — not only significantly improves the quality of rice bran oil, but the extracted wax also holds considerable value across the food, daily chemical and chemical industries.

Refined rice bran wax is a white, pale yellow or brown solid with a certain degree of hardness. It is brittle (non-sticky), has a high melting point of approximately 78.2°C, fine crystals, a smooth surface and good electrical insulation properties. Huatai’s refining process emphasizes environmental protection and efficiency, using food-grade solvents and molecular distillation to improve product purity while strictly controlling temperature and time for consistent quality.

With global mining of non-renewable lignite wax declining year by year (current supply approximately 35,000–40,000 tons, concentrated in Europe), rice bran wax — extracted from pure natural green plants — is a renewable substitute bringing new development opportunities to related industries. Huatai holds globally exclusive technology for rice bran wax deep processing.

Rice Bran Wax Refining overview

Rice Bran Wax Production Process

From rice bran byproduct to high-purity refined wax — a fully integrated process.

1. Raw Material Selection

Select fresh, dry rice bran free of impurities to guarantee extraction yield and purity during subsequent processing.

2. Rice Bran Pretreatment

Crush and screen the rice bran to remove impurities and larger particles, facilitating subsequent solvent extraction.

3. Solvent Extraction

Macerate the pretreated rice bran with food-grade solvents such as petroleum ether or ethanol; control solvent dosage, extraction temperature and duration for complete wax dissolution.

4. Filtration & Separation

Filter the extraction solution to remove solid residues, then separate solvent from wax through distillation, cooling or similar methods.

5. Decolorization

Remove pigments and impurities using adsorbents such as activated carbon and kaolin through adsorption, improving the color quality of the wax.

6. Fine Filtration

Filter the decolorized wax to eliminate solid residues and fine particles generated during decolorization.

7. Crystallization & Separation

Cool the filtered wax to induce crystallization, causing wax components to precipitate as solids; then separate them from liquid impurities via centrifugation and filtration.

8. Solvent Recovery & Separation

Pass the upper mixed oil through an evaporation system to recover solvent and yield neutral oil; the lower crystallized mixed wax enters a rotary drum vacuum filter to separate solid wax from oil.

9. Vacuum Concentration & Granulation

Heat the solid wax and vacuum-evaporate to concentrate, removing trace solvent and moisture; the liquid wax is then cooled and granulated to obtain refined rice bran wax.
