Rice bran oil is a premium edible oil extracted from the outer layer of brown rice, valued for its balanced fatty acid profile, high oryzanol content, and high smoke point. Global annual production exceeds 1.5 million metric tons, with major production in Asia.

Huatai's rice bran oil production lines deliver complete EPC solutions covering every stage — from rice bran stabilization (critical for preventing rancidity), through solvent extraction, to dewaxing and refining. Because rice bran contains 2-4% wax, dewaxing is essential for clear, marketable oil.

We offer flexible capacities from 10 TPD to 500 TPD. Each line is custom-engineered based on your rice bran source (parboiled or raw), freshness, and target oryzanol retention. Stabilization within hours of milling is critical for quality.

Rice Bran Oil Production Steps

From raw rice bran oil to refined oil — a fully integrated process.

1. Bran Stabilization

Fresh rice bran is heated to 110-130°C for 3-5 minutes in a continuous stabilizer to inactivate lipase enzymes. Without stabilization, free fatty acids rise rapidly, making refining impossible and reducing oil yield.

2. Conditioning

Stabilized bran is conditioned to optimal moisture and temperature for flaking, ensuring uniform particle size for extraction.

3. Flaking

Conditioned bran is flaked using smooth-roll mills to rupture oil cells and create thin flakes for efficient solvent penetration.

4. Solvent Extraction

Flaked bran is extracted with hexane in a continuous chain or loop extractor using counter-current percolation, achieving residual oil below 1.0% in defatted bran.

5. Miscella Evaporation

Miscella is evaporated in two stages and stripped under negative pressure to recover solvent and produce crude rice bran oil.

6. Degumming

Crude rice bran oil is degummed with phosphoric acid and water to remove phospholipids and gums, producing degummed oil ready for dewaxing.

7. Dewaxing

Degummed oil is cooled to 5-10°C to crystallize waxes (2-4% of oil), which are removed by cold filtration or centrifugal separation. Dewaxed oil meets clarity standards.

8. Refining

Dewaxed oil is refined through neutralization (for high-FFA bran oil, physical refining is preferred), bleaching, and deodorization to produce fully refined rice bran oil.

9. Deodorization

High-temperature vacuum steam distillation removes volatile odor compounds and free fatty acids, producing bland, stable refined rice bran oil retaining beneficial oryzanol.

Key Equipment Systems

Each system is designed and manufactured in-house under ISO 9001 quality management.

Stabilization System

Continuous extrusion or steam-heated stabilizer for rice bran, achieving 110-130°C for 3-5 minutes to inactivate lipase. Critical for preserving oil quality and oryzanol content.

Solvent Extraction

Chain-type or loop-type extractor with counter-current hexane percolation, DTDC, and miscella evaporation system designed for fine bran flakes.

Degumming & Dewaxing

Acid degumming tank followed by crystallization tanks with controlled cooling to 5-10°C, and cold filtration or centrifugal separator for wax removal.

Physical Refining

Physical refining preferred for high-FFA rice bran oil, using high-temperature deodorization to distill free fatty acids while preserving oryzanol content.

Deodorization Tower

Continuous deodorization tower with structured packing operating at 240-260°C under high vacuum, removing odors and FFA while retaining bioactive compounds.
